Abhishek Bhattacharya

Hi, 

My name is Abhisek Bhattacharya, and art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in my village, I was captivated by drawing and sculpting from a young age. My father, a sculptor, created an environment where my passion for art could thrive.

Even while focusing on my studies, I never let go of my love for creating. After finishing high school, I tried to get into art college but faced challenges due to family circumstances. In 2013, I finally began studying sculpture at Bengal Fine Arts College.

During my college years, I earned several recognitions, including a Certificate of Merit in 2014 and a Silver Medal in 2015-16. I also started crafting Durga idols and taking small commissions. My dedication paid off in 2016-17 when I won first place in the college exhibition, earned a Gold Medal, and topped the sculpture department at the university level.

In 2017, I took the next step in my journey by enrolling in the MFA sculpture program at Kala Bhavan, Visva-Bharati University. There, I explored new mediums like hay, experimenting with unique forms and sculptures.

After earning my MFA in 2019, I began working more extensively with Puja committees, creating Durga idols. A significant milestone came in 2021 when I collaborated with the Ajay Sanghati Durga Utsav Committee, and for the first time, my name was featured as the sculptor on their Puja banner.

Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited about what lies ahead. Art is my life, and I’m committed to pushing the boundaries of creativity in sculpture and beyond.
